ABOUT PIT
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a civil–military international airport, originally opened in 1952 to replace Allegheny County Airport. Though the county airport was closer to the Pittsburgh city limits, it was too small to handle the growing air passenger traffic.
In 2019, PIT served 9,779,024 passengers, a 1.2% rise from the previous year. PIT is the busiest airport in western Pennsylvania and the second busiest airport in the state, after Philadelphia International Airport.
Since 2015, the airport successfully attracted new, low-cost carriers, including Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Spirit Airlines, along with international carriers Condor and British Airways.
