Upcoming Spring Festivals

Winter will soon be drawing to a close as the first day of spring fast approaches, bringing with it new beginnings and warmer weather.  Flowers will soon be blooming and maple syrup will be ready for harvesting.  In some parts of the country, crawfish season will be underway.  Check out these spring festivals that all celebrate spring in a different way: Maple Syrup Festival The family farm LM Sugarbush LLC hosts a Maple Syrup Festival every year in Salem, Indiana.  Pancakes and waffles will be served (with maple syrup, of course!), and fresh syrup will be available for purchase.  In fact, a number of maple-flavored treats will be offered—maple candy, maple cream, maple cotton candy, and maple-coated nuts.  Last year, this event even showed three different methods of making maple syrup: how modern syrup is made and how Native Americans and pioneers created syrup.  This event will take place on February 28 and on March 1, 7, and 8. National Cherry Blossom Festival In 1912, Japan gave a number of cherry blossom trees to the U.S. to strengthen ties between the two countries.  These flowering trees were planted in Washington, DC and have inspired many tourists to visit the capital in springtime, hoping to catch a glimpse of the trees’ beautiful flowers.  The National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC is a celebration that stretches from March 20 to April 12, 2015 and includes events such as the Pink Tie Party—a bash featuring an auction, dancing, and more.  There’s also a parade in honor of the cherry blossoms, along with a Japanese street festival. Mudbug Madness Head to Shreveport, Louisiana and indulge in fresh crawfish at the Mudbug Madness festival.  (“Mudbugs” is just one of the many nicknames given to crawfish.)  While you’re there, compete in one of the many crawfish eating contests or cheer on your favorite contestant from the sidelines.  The live Zydeco music shouldn’t be missed, either.  Mudbug Madness is held May 21-24, 2015. Spring is a great time to go someplace new because snow is unlikely to interrupt flights, and you can spend time outside on your vacation.  Have fun at these spring festivals!
