The winter 2020-21 season will be exceptionally challenging for the aviation industry with border closures, non-essential travel restrictions, and other limitations. Airlines are now offering COVID-19 testing for passengers on many routes, which shows an unprecedented level of corporate responsibility. Still, people want to get out of town in the upcoming months, and the travel industry is listening. This season, you’re going to see flight offers from your home airport that you never expected. Southwest, United, and other airlines are running point-to-point flights that you need to know about.
Let’s take a look at some of the most recent and surprising changes to nonstop flights that you might want to take advantage of.
1. Southwest: Long Beach, California to Honolulu, Hawaii
Beginning spring, 2021, Southwest Airlines will offer new routes
including daily one-way trips from Long Beach (LGB) to Honolulu (HNL). What’s incredible is that tickets start at just $99. With the price point so low, Long Beach could become the mainland’s gateway to the coveted Hawaiian islands.
Of course, there will be limitations. Southwest will offer these flights just once per day with limitations on seats, days, markets. Black out dates are applicable to this offer. That said, if you’re interested in a spring getaway to the islands, consider Southwest Airlines first.
2. United: Denver, Colorado to Latin America
This year, in response to Thanksgiving travel demand, United has added over 1,400 new domestic flights
to their schedule. Most noteworthy is their recent expansion
of existing Latin American flights. "Our new and increased service offers travelers more opportunities to find warm-weather getaways and visit friends and family over the winter season," said Patrick Quayle, Vice President of International Network and Alliances of United.
You’re going to find brand new, nonstop service between Denver (DEN) and Belize City, Belize as well as San Jose, Costa Rica, courtesy of United. For those who are wondering, the airline will continue to offer flights between Denver and other Latin American cities like Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose del Cabo, Nassau and Liberia.

In response to consumer demand, the airline added flights to accommodate more time outdoors, which seems to be what people crave right now. "Travelers are increasingly looking for unique destinations where they can truly escape and enjoy wide open spaces,€" said Andrea Lusso, JetBlue’s Vice President of Network Planning.
4. Alaska: Los Angeles, California to Reno, Nevada
One of the nation’s top carriers, Alaska Airlines has also noticed increases in demand for relaxation in nature and is working to meet that need by offering travelers several new routes
. One such route is a surprising passage from typically bustling Los Angeles (LAX) to the gateway to Lake Tahoe - Reno, Nevada (RNO).
