Equestrian Vacations

If you love horseback riding, then an equestrian vacation could be well suited to you!  Explore the Biltmore property on horseback, or discover what life must have been like in the old west on a dude ranch.  For something a little different, learn about the wild ponies of Chincoteague Island, Virginia.  Whichever trip you choose, you are sure to have a fantastic time: Asheville, North Carolina The Biltmore estate is best known for the beautiful mansion that graces its property, but this destination is also a superb location for a horseback riding vacation.  There are five separate Biltmore riding trails that each stretch between 10 and 30 miles where you can discover beautiful forests and lush pastures.  Optional jumps featured on a few of the trails add variety to your ride.  While guided trail rides and lessons are offered, you are also welcome to bring your own horse to explore the 8,000 acres of property that Biltmore owns. Don’t forget that there are plenty of other things to discover at Biltmore, too!  There’s even a Downton Abbey® exhibition that allows guests to view character costumes.  The display will be available until May 25, 2015. Dubois, Wyoming The Bitterroot Ranch gives horse lovers a unique taste of life on a ranch with activities such as barbecues, bonfires, trail rides, cattle herding, and picnics.  You can ride in a variety of terrains, too—everything from forest to desert.  A cross country course will be perfect for those who love jumping, and riding clinics are ideal for riders looking to learn new techniques.  Whether you want to improve your skill as a rider or simply want to get back to nature, this dude ranch can help you do both. Chincoteague Island, Virginia Stemming from a centuries-old tradition, the Chincoteague Pony Swim is a popular event in which wild ponies from nearby Assateague Island are herded across a channel to Chincoteague Island.  Thousands of people watch the ponies swim across the channel every year!  The day after Pony Swim, a number of foals will be auctioned to help thin the pony herd—this is why the Pony Swim takes place.  This year, the 90th Annual Pony Swim will occur on July 29, 2015.  There’s also a popular carnival that you can attend all week long. Theme trips like equestrian vacations are a great way to expand on the hobby that you love.  Hope you have a wonderful trip!
