This historic day for our country is often celebrated with parades, barbeques, carnivals, baseball games, family reunions, and much more. While all of these activities ensure a fun-filled 4th of July, there is one thing that stands out on this holiday: fireworks. All over the country, the skies are lit up with every color imaginable in celebration of our nation’s independence. Paired with the extra day off of work, the 4th of July weekend is a great time to take a break and relax. Check out these destinations for the best fireworks on the 4th of July: Washington, D.C. It seems fitting that our nation’s capital has one of the best July 4th fireworks displays in the country. The fireworks are launched from the Reflecting Pool, which lies in front of the Washington Monument. Getting a seat anywhere on the National Mall will leave you with a great view of the show, although it can be seen from several other locations as well. Washington, D.C. is also a great spot to spend a long weekend, especially a patriotic one like July 4th. From the Lincoln Memorial and White House, to the Smithsonian and National Zoo, there is plenty to see and do around Washington, D.C. Philadelphia, PA As the meeting place of our nation’s founding fathers, the Cradle of Liberty takes its July 4th fireworks very seriously. The celebration, called “Welcome America”, takes place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway with the Philadelphia Museum of Art serving as the backdrop. From both sides of the Delaware River, the Adventure Aquarium’s Waterfront Fireworks celebration can also be seen. A trip to Philadelphia isn’t complete unless you visit Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and of course try a famous cheesesteak sandwich. Portland, Ore. The July 4th fireworks in Portland don’t just take place on the 4th itself, but throughout the entire weekend. Fort Vancouver hosts its own fireworks show on the other side of the Columbia River, which is only 15 minutes away from downtown Portland. The city also features Portland’s Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, which features more than 125 performers on four stages from July 3rd through July 6th. San Diego, Calif. The Port of San Diego is home to the Big Bay Boom, which is one of the largest annual fireworks shows in the country. In addition, La Jolla and LEGOLAND have their own respective fireworks displays as well. With these outstanding options, it’s easy to see how San Diego is home to some of the best fireworks spectacles in the country.
