Quick Tips for an Atlanta Getaway

One of the best things about our country is its diversity.  Because of its enormous size, the United States has hundreds of cities that are unique and exciting in their own distinct ways. From Charleston, South Carolina, to Seattle, Washington, the list of places you can adventure to is seemingly endless. A great place to explore this summer is Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta has always been an important part of the United States as it’s home to a United States Appellate Court, a Federal Reserve Bank and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is also the seventh most visited city in the country, so it is clear there is plenty to discover in this southern gem. Take a look at this list of unique things that Atlanta has to offer: Tourism Atlanta was the boyhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and is now home to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site.  This preserved home of the famous civil rights activist is one of the most famous Atlanta tourist attractions. One of the world’s most recognizable brands can trace its roots back to Atlanta: Coca-Cola.  The company’s headquarters are in the city and tourists can visit the World of Coca-Cola where they can taste several of the brand’s famous flavors. Parks Zoo Atlanta is a must see amongst Atlanta’s many parks.  It is one of only four zoos in the United States that has giant pandas, making it one of the premier zoos in the country.  In addition to the pandas, this 40-acre park is home to more than 1,500 animals from more than 220 species. Besides the zoo, the Atlanta Botanical Garden offers another unique experience.  This intercity park features the Kendeda Canopy Walk. The canopy walk is a 600-foot-long skywalk that crosses the Storza Woods, which is one of the few remaining urban forests in the city. The Centennial Olympic Park represents the mark that the 1996 Summer Olympics left on Atlanta.  The park serves as the venue for a summer concert series and the annual Independence Day concert and fireworks. Sports Atlanta has a rich sports history as it hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics, 1994 and 2000 Super Bowls, 2001 and 2011 PGA Championships and currently hosts college football’s SEC Championship Game and Chick-fil-A Bowl. The city is home to the MLB’s Braves, NBA’s Hawks and NFL’s Falcons, so you can plan your trip around the season of your favorite sport. Theater and Arts Few cities have permanent, professional opera, ballet, music and theater companies, but Atlanta happens to be one of them.  Seeing the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra or Atlanta Alliance Theater would be a great way to add some unique culture to any vacation. There are also several museums you can visit including the Museum of Design Atlanta, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia.
