ABOUT MCO


Located six miles southeast of the downtown area, Orlando International Airport (MCO), handled 50,613,072 passengers in 2019, making it the busiest airport in the state of Florida and the tenth busiest airport in the United States. At 13,302 acres, MCO is one of the largest commercial airports by land area in the US. The airport is also a major international gateway for the mid-Florida region, with over 730 daily flights on 36 airlines.

In the early 1960s, when jet airline flights came to Orlando, the airport became a joint civil-military facility. The code ‘MCO’ refers to the airport's former name, McCoy Air Force Base.

MCO’s main terminal building is divided into two terminals. The airport serves as a hub for Silver Airways and a focus city for Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, and Spirit. Southwest carries the most passengers through MCO.
